Harvest Kitchen

Wednesday's at 4:00pm

Beginning April 6, 2009 our programs are moving from the Bobby Orr Community Centre to the St. James United Church. We will be there until May 31, 2009. Times are still the same and we are using the doorway off the parking lot.

Every Wednesday morning Harvest Share visits retailers, picking up fruits and vegetables that are passed their "best before date." Food also flows in from local restaurants, donut shops and catering companies. By late morning the kitchen at the Bobby Orr is lined with boxes of food. Cooks who volunteer their time and expertise, scan the contents, plan the menu and start the days work. At 4:30, homemade soup, fresh salads, both green and fruit, a main hot dish, assorted baked goods and beverages are ready. The price for the four course meal, seconds if you have room, is pay-what-you can with a minimum of $1.00 per person. People bring containers and buy whatever food is left after everyone has eaten. Bread and fresh produce not used for the meal are for sale for a buck a bag.

Harvest Kitchen has quickly grown into a true community effort. Please join us for this full course meal every Wednesday.
